Child Sponsorship: A Closer Look

Child Sponsorship: A Closer Look

When Ripple Effect Project began supporting the Korando Education Center in 2007, only a handful of children lived with Mama Dolfine, and the total student population was 27.  But before long Mama’s integrity and commitment became well known in Kisumu, and as her reputation grew the KEC expanded accordingly. Countless students found a refuge, a lifeline, and an education through Korando. By 2017, hundreds of students were associated with the KEC orphanage, K-8 school, or were graduates of those programs, still supported during their high school or college years. It was in 2017 that we created a Child Sponsorship Program to help fund these many deserving students.

As of today over 300 students are dependent upon the KEC’s support to make their educational goals a reality. Currently, 213 students are attending classes at Korando during the day, 87 of whom live with Dolfine at the Center full-time. An additional 116 sponsored graduates are attending local high schools.  As these students are from vulnerable populations and many are orphans or experiencing extreme poverty, a Kenyan education would otherwise be out of reach without the support services of the KEC.

The purpose of our Child Sponsorship Program is to connect two people: a sponsor with a generous heart and a child with many needs. When you join our movement, you’re making a real difference in the world and creating a positive ripple effect which travels from this generation to the next. Sponsoring a child means you’re part of the solution by helping to transform a child’s life.  You can exchange messages with your sponsored child if desired.

From toddlerhood to young adulthood, our child sponsorship program helps equip students with crucial educational, life, and job skills which help them to meet their full potential as human beings. The cost of Child Sponsorship is $25 per month.

When you sponsor a child through a monthly giving plan, you’re helping provide:

A safe environment for your student to live, eat and learn.

A caring team of teachers and staff who mentor the children and attend to their growth.

A path toward success for a child with minimal resources.

What you get in return:

A welcome packet with information about your sponsored child.

Yearly student photos.

Regularly mailed or emailed updates and letters.
