To empower the orphans and vulnerable children of
Kisumu, Kenya to live, learn and thrive by providing food, shelter and
education at the stable environment of the Korando Center.
Core Philosophy
(Values)
Dignity and Hope for the Disenfranchised:
Our actions are built on the principle that
impoverished children deserve support and dignity. The Korando Education Center is a
school and dormitory complex serving both commuting and boarding students from
Pre-K to Grade 9. Children who do not have economic or familial safety nets
have a safe and loving environment at the KEC from toddlerhood to young
adulthood. While primary education is free in Kenya, the KEC is the only Kisumu
school which absorbs the cost of uniforms, materials and other mandatory fees
that otherwise prevent disenfranchised students and their families from
affording school.
Holistic Education and Academic Opportunity:
We empower children by promoting a whole-child
philosophy of education where academic, social, emotional and spiritual needs
are met. We
help foster compassionate, responsible, hardworking individuals of strong
character, and give them the tools to both transform their own lives and uplift
their communities.
Ripples of Impact Create Waves of Change:
Breaking cycles of generational poverty requires
the systematic support of individual youth: because today's children are
tomorrow's leaders and changemakers. The Korando Education Center is a vehicle
for local county impact as well as a catalyst for national change. We
intentionally pursue sustainable agricultural and financial practices to ensure
the KEC will serve the vulnerable children of Kisumu for years to come.
